Nourishing Nursing Mother’s Tea

Nourishing Nursing Mother’s Tea

I am a big believer in family and community support for pregnant women. I’ve always wished that I could live close to my loved ones when they were/are pregnant so that I could spoil them as much as possible. Fortunately, as I mentioned in my Gentle Healing Salve post, my wonderful cousin/friend is pregnant and due any minute now. She moved down here to South Carolina a year ago, just down the road from me, so I’m finally getting my wish to be able to support a preggers-loved one. 🙂 I’m creating a basket of supplies to bring her once her wee little one is born. Hmm…maybe I’ll make a post later on all about things to make/buy for a basket for celebrating a new birth (as well as for spoiling the new mama!). One of the things I decided to make for my sweet cousin was this homemade Nourishing Nursing Mother’s Tea. The ingredients in this homemade tea should help both with producing milk for the baby AND it also...

How to Make a Gentle Healing Salve

How to Make a Gentle Healing Salve

Remember when I made my plantain infused oil (and dandelion infused oil, calendula infused oil, and comfrey infused oil) in the spring, and I promised to come back in fall/winter with some awesome DIY projects for you to make with your new oils? Well, I did not forget that promise.  Partly because I’m looking at these beautiful jars of super amazing infused oils and I just HAVE to use them in somehow. 😉 The problem was that I didn’t know which type of DIY project to make first. Talk about being overwhelmed. Do I make a beauty cream? Some homemade lotion? A neosporin-type all purpose salve? Ahh…I want to make them all, but there is so little free time these days.  Fortunately, my beautiful cousin (and friend!) is pregnant and due to have her baby any minute now. I am determined to put together a lovely basket of healthy supplies (both homemade and bought) to help her out during those first weeks of new baby-hood. These are supplies to...

How to Make a Headache Salve

How to Make a Headache Salve

How to Make a Headache Salve I’ve mentioned it before (in my ‘about me‘ info, for example) that I’m one of those people who is prone to headaches. When the weather changes, when I eat too much processed foods, for my hormonal cycles, when I’m dehydrated, when it’s allergy season, when it’s too sunny, when my eyes are strained, when I’m stressed….yep, I get headaches for pretty much everything. It used to be pretty bad. In fact, I would have more days in a month WITH headaches than without.  However, as I wrote in my ‘15 Herbs for Headaches‘ post, I’ve found some amazing natural solutions that have made it so that I have very few serious headaches anymore. It’s not just herbal remedies, but it’s also things like eating Real Food, living a more stress-free lifestyle, and exercising. I also keep my natural medicine cabinet stocked with Feverfew tincture for any bad headaches or migraines. When I DO get a headache, I prefer to use every possible natural remedy/option possible ASAP. I...

DIY Sore Muscle Salve

DIY Sore Muscle Salve

DIY Sore Muscle Salve I’ve been meaning to make my own DIY salve for sore muscles for quite some time. However, life gets busy and whatnot, so I kept putting it off. It’s one of those things where you KNOW you will need it someday, but since it’s not an immediate need, the chore keeps getting put off over and over again. Very recently, a friend of mine needed something for sore muscles. Suddenly, I knew I had a reason to finally make a double batch of sore muscle salve. Huzzah! This Sore Muscle Salve contains both warming and cooling medicinal products, so it will feel kinda like ‘icy hot’ products. My particular salve contains only a few of the herbs and essential oils that are helpful for sore muscles, pain, and/or inflammation. Someday, hopefully I will make up a nice list for you of the natural remedies for sore muscles. For now, this recipe will have to do! This recipe DOES take a bit more time than a...

12 Herbs and Spices for Depression (and Resources)

12 Herbs and Spices for Depression (and Resources)

My Journey with Depression I never thought I would end up struggling with depression. I always considered myself an optimistic person, but looking back now, maybe I only thought that I was optimistic because nothing seriously negative had ever happened to me.  I started my grown-up years thinking that if you worked hard, you could make your dreams come true. Then nasty people took my dream career away and didn’t get what they deserved. And I remained unemployed, despite my hard work ethic and stellar scholastic background.  Then we tried to sell our house so we could move away from a city that was sucking away our souls, and we ended up having to foreclose. Then we moved to another state, far away from loved ones and had to live in a RV trailer…and I was still unemployed. Somewhere in the mix, I had chronic migraines, and the doctors tried all sorts of pills, all of which had the side effect of making me actively depressed. I was also...
