Homemade Salsa Recipe

Homemade Salsa Recipe

A good Homemade Salsa Recipe…it is easily my FAVORITE way to eat hot peppers from the garden. I warn you now: this is a homemade salsa recipe that focuses on hot peppers over tomatoes! If you’re not into spicy salsas, try making my tasty Mango Salsa Recipe. Or try one of these awesome salsa recipes instead (from a fellow blogger). Now that the warning is done, let’s get on to my salsa story… Once upon a time… As in, 11 years ago, my husband and I were adorable newlyweds, and we were also new at the whole adulting thing. We were still full-time undergrads and living our first year of marriage on campus in the married’s apartments. It was our first summer as a married couple. And we decided to be super cool and adult-like and go to the college’s farmer’s market. It was our first farmer’s market ever. I was not impressed. In my head, a farmer’s market is like you see on tv about Europe, with homemade...

Oven Fried Zucchini with Garlic Aioli Recipe

I am THRILLED to introduce the amazing Shaye Elliott from The Elliott Homestead! I love her website and her farm and…her food. This tasty recipe can use up both zucchini and garlic from your garden, as well as any herbs you have available. I get all my seeds to grow heirloom non-GMO zucchini here.  You can find more of Shaye’s cooking videos here. She is a phenomenal cook and this recipe is amazing! Enjoy! Hello fellow foodies! So glad to meet you… even if it is digitally. I’m always humbled by the community that exists around a common love for good food. Which is obviously why you’re reading Cris’ blog in the first place! It’s a beautiful place to hang out and be inspired. I’m humbled she’s invited me to share in a bit of that love.  In the spirit of celebrating our farm and all the goodies it gives us, I wanted to share with you my Oven Fried Zucchini with Garlic Aioli video. Cardamom Spiced Hot Chocolate Recipe

Cardamom Spiced Hot Chocolate Recipe

Cool weather is (finally)here…. Now that the weather has cooled off for the year (and here in the south, “cool” means less than 70 degrees), I’ve got a craving for all things cozy. Flannel shirts, blankets, fireplaces, pumpkin muffins, and….hot chocolate. Nothing beats sipping some hot chocolate on the back porch, wrapped in a blanket, and admiring my pretty cover crops and fall/winter vegetables.  Now that my garden is filled with lots of goodies, I get to just sit back and enjoy the view. Fall season brings lots of rain down here in South Carolina, so my watering is pretty minimum. Pests aren’t as bad, nor are the weeds. I’m still harvesting watermelon, kale, beans, and peppers from my spring/summer garden as well. Life is good. Hot chocolate is good. But you know what makes homemade hot chocolate even better? Spices. Now that gardening is slowing down, I can focus on getting more spices in my diet again.  This hot chocolate recipe is one of my ways to get...

How to make Water Kefir

How to make Water Kefir

How to Make Water Kefir As I mentioned in my 2015 Homestead Goals (click here for that post), I’m trying to get serious about my Water Kefir.  Why water kefir? A few years back, my husband got terribly sick with some serious mystery illness; sick enough that we went to the hospital. The doctors were stumped and simply put him on some super-powerful antibiotics. Those antibiotics may have gotten rid of the mystery illness, but it left my poor hubby’s digestion in some terrible distress. We tried probiotics in pill-form, but it didn’t help. Since natural remedies worked for my headaches, I started my research on figuring out what to do to help my husband recover. First, we tried kombucha. No offense to kombucha lovers out there, but I do NOT care for the taste. My husband didn’t either. So we started drinking water kefir. It’s fantastic! Water kefir is a tasty probiotic drink with loads of nutrients in it. We haven’t bought juice ever since we started drinking...

Healthy Arugula Recipes

Healthy Arugula Recipes

I love arugula. Maybe too much, since I “accidentally” planted multiple packets of arugula seeds in my raised bed in the garden. Oops. I can’t help it. Arugula is easy to grow (learn more about how to grow arugula in this post) and grows quickly, and I even love the fragrant peppery smell while I am harvesting it! Since I had an abundance of arugula staring at me, I started making my go-to arugula recipe: Goat Cheese Arugula Pizza. However, after eating that 4 times in a week (not kidding here, it is SOOOO good!), I’ve decided I need some new Arugula-focused recipes for my next harvest (which is coming up! I love how quickly arugula grows). As I was gathering healthy arugula recipes, I noticed something: these recipes are beautiful! There is just something artistically pretty about these leaves. They taste good AND they look good.   Please feel free to leave your favorite Arugula recipes in the comments below!   *Healthy Arugula Recipes*   *Arugula Pesto* 1....
