Nourishing Nursing Mother’s Tea

Nourishing Nursing Mother’s Tea

I am a big believer in family and community support for pregnant women. I’ve always wished that I could live close to my loved ones when they were/are pregnant so that I could spoil them as much as possible. Fortunately, as I mentioned in my Gentle Healing Salve post, my wonderful cousin/friend is pregnant and due any minute now. She moved down here to South Carolina a year ago, just down the road from me, so I’m finally getting my wish to be able to support a preggers-loved one. 🙂 I’m creating a basket of supplies to bring her once her wee little one is born. Hmm…maybe I’ll make a post later on all about things to make/buy for a basket for celebrating a new birth (as well as for spoiling the new mama!). One of the things I decided to make for my sweet cousin was this homemade Nourishing Nursing Mother’s Tea. The ingredients in this homemade tea should help both with producing milk for the baby AND it also...

How to Make a Headache Salve

How to Make a Headache Salve

How to Make a Headache Salve I’ve mentioned it before (in my ‘about me‘ info, for example) that I’m one of those people who is prone to headaches. When the weather changes, when I eat too much processed foods, for my hormonal cycles, when I’m dehydrated, when it’s allergy season, when it’s too sunny, when my eyes are strained, when I’m stressed….yep, I get headaches for pretty much everything. It used to be pretty bad. In fact, I would have more days in a month WITH headaches than without.  However, as I wrote in my ‘15 Herbs for Headaches‘ post, I’ve found some amazing natural solutions that have made it so that I have very few serious headaches anymore. It’s not just herbal remedies, but it’s also things like eating Real Food, living a more stress-free lifestyle, and exercising. I also keep my natural medicine cabinet stocked with Feverfew tincture for any bad headaches or migraines. When I DO get a headache, I prefer to use every possible natural remedy/option possible ASAP. I...

DIY Sore Muscle Salve

DIY Sore Muscle Salve

DIY Sore Muscle Salve I’ve been meaning to make my own DIY salve for sore muscles for quite some time. However, life gets busy and whatnot, so I kept putting it off. It’s one of those things where you KNOW you will need it someday, but since it’s not an immediate need, the chore keeps getting put off over and over again. Very recently, a friend of mine needed something for sore muscles. Suddenly, I knew I had a reason to finally make a double batch of sore muscle salve. Huzzah! This Sore Muscle Salve contains both warming and cooling medicinal products, so it will feel kinda like ‘icy hot’ products. My particular salve contains only a few of the herbs and essential oils that are helpful for sore muscles, pain, and/or inflammation. Someday, hopefully I will make up a nice list for you of the natural remedies for sore muscles. For now, this recipe will have to do! This recipe DOES take a bit more time than a...

The Medicinal Benefits of Paprika

The Medicinal Benefits of Paprika

This is a continuation of my Spice Series. Welcome to my information on Paprika!   **Paprika is my favorite spice, so this is an extra special entry for me. I love how paprika has a range of tastes from sweet to smoky to spicy to savory, all of which depends on how it was dried and prepared. **One of the reasons that paprika’s flavor can vary is because technically, any member of the ‘Capsicum annuum’ (pepper family) can be dried and ground into paprika (especially red peppers). Cayenne pepper is usually the name for spicy ground ‘Capsicum annuum’ while Paprika is the name for the other flavors. However, there are also official pepper plants that are most often used for paprika including: Alma Paprika, Hungarian Paprika, Dulce Rojo, Fehor Ozon, and Paprika Supreme. **Paprika is an important spice on its’ own, and it has also become one of the most consumed spice products in the world because of its’ importance in spice blends, including rubs, marinades, and seasoned salts....
